We're not just your electric provider, we're an electric cooperative, meaning we're owned and governed by the members we serve. Our membership drives the work we do every day and leads us into a strong future. Our cooperative thrives on member input, which is why we included members just like you in the planning of our mission, vision and core values.

Mission: To improve the quality of life for our members by providing safe and reliable energy solutions.

Vision: To lead with innovation and integrity.

History:

Members of Smoky Hill Electric, NCK Electric and Jewell-Mitchell Electric gave their approval to consolidate the three cooperatives becoming Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative, Inc. representing the region of the state in which the cooperatives serve.

At the time of consolidation, Smoky Hill Electric served approximately 2,900 meters over 1,500 miles of line in Ellsworth, Lincoln and portions of Russell counties. Jewell-Mitchell Electric served approximately 4,670 meters over 3,100 miles of line in Jewell, Mitchell, Osborne and Smith counties. NCK Electric served approximately 3,000 meters over 1,800 miles of line in Cloud, Republic and portions of Washington and Clay counties.

We provide service to over 11,400 meters in parts of 16 northern and north central Kansas counties. The office relocated to Beloit, Kansas in June 2016 and stands there today. Rolling Hills Electric’s 40 employees maintain and operate approximately 6,425 miles of line.

With the consolidation, Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative, Inc. became the third largest cooperative in Kansas

Seven Cooperative Principles

Voluntary and Open Membership

Voluntary and Open Membership

Co-ops are open to all persons able to use their services and willing to accept membership responsibilities, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.

Democratic Member Control

Democratic Member Control

Co-ops are controlled by their members who participate in setting policies and making decisions by electing representatives accountable to the membership. One member = one vote.

Member's Economic Participation

Members’ Economic Participation

Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of the co-op. The economic benefits of a cooperative operation are returned to the members, reinvested in the co-op, or used to provide member services. Members control the capital.

Autonomy and Independence

Autonomy and Independence

Co-ops are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. Any agreements with other organizations must ensure democratic control by the members and maintain the co-op’s autonomy.

Education, Training and Information

Education, Training and Information

Co-ops provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their co-op.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives

Cooperation Among Cooperatives

Co-ops serve their members most effectively and strengthen the co-op movement by working together through local, national, regional and international structures.

Concern for Community

While focusing on member needs, co-ops work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
