You are no doubt aware that we are experiencing issues with our Scandia, Republic, and Jamestown substations due to the failure of a major transformer at Scandia. It is now anticipated that the replacement transformer will be delivered Saturday evening and the swap will occur immediately thereafter if all goes according to plan. We have been able to minimize the impact of the failure by workarounds and back feeds; however, this has limitations. The timing of the failure, given the abnormally high temperatures which are forecast and the difficulty of obtaining a replacement transformer leads your Cooperative to ask for member assistance to minimize potential adverse effects for all members of the Cooperative by working to reduce your consumption of electricity. One of our large Cooperative commercial members has graciously worked with us to take the lead, reducing consumption during this timeframe.
Your Cooperative’s request is that members in the Scandia, Republic and Jamestown substation areas (the areas affected by Monday afternoon’s outage) find ways to lower their usage of electricity as much as possible beginning Friday and until the new transformer is in and running. If each member can look for ways to lower the use of electricity during this time of strain on our distribution system, it will benefit all members and keep that area of our system stable. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
We again apologize for any inconvenience this event may have caused.
We will advise you by posts on our website at Media Room | Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative, Inc or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RollingHillsElectric.
Members in other areas should also remember that they can reduce their bills by reducing the usage of electricity during periods of peak demand – mid afternoon to evening.
Thank you, members, for your assistance.
